Broken in on the first day

A good hat needs no explanation. Knowing where the work went is still worth something.
It is a grain new caps rarely have, so the first morning already looks like the fifth year. Damage made by machine repeats at an even interval and gives itself away within seconds; damage made by hand does not. The Orlando Original 01 on the front is appliqué — embroidery laid over felt, thick enough to catch the light — not a print, and you can feel the step of each letter under a fingertip.
A 1976 patch on the side, lettering on the back: the finish does not stop where the front does. All five colours are pitched one wash past new, so they sit in the same decade as the distressing rather than arguing with it.
